Like Mick said, are you in hardmode yet. If yes, kill the destroyer for souls of might to craft the megashark.

he said hardmode not hardcore hardmode is when the wof is killed and the hallow is added hardcore is a character option

Yes, hardmode and hardcore are different things. Hardmode unlocks much more content in the game, whereas hardcore makes the game much more difficult, since you have one life only.

you have to be in hardmode kill the WOF it will start it and new mobs will spawn more hard ones and some of them will drop souls kill some of the hard mode bosses and you will get some

warning the hardmore bosses are very hard for new players

fact also if you die in hardmode you can respawn if you die in hardcore you will not respawn as you but you will respawn as a ghost and if you leave your guy that you played will be gone

hardmode is activated when the WOF aka Wall of Flesh is defeated

hardCORE is a Difficulty when you make a a new character like softcore and ect

Night: Underground Corruption

Should be said that it doesn't matter what monster you kill for souls of light or night. You have to kill them in the right underground biome. You could for instance kill a chaos elemental in the corruption/crimson underground and get the soul of night.

For farming souls of night in the corruption or crimson: spawn their non hardmode bosses in them. They have many parts that all have a chance to drop souls.
