Mimic Farm

Now, i am trying to farm mimics! But, it's not working! there is a certian way to do it, but again, it's not working!, can i get some help? ummmm, exclamation point!

Just how are you trying to farm mimics? Spawning them with statues will only make them drop their banners and nothing else.

i'm trying to do the thing when you make a certain type of pit
so they spawn

Mimics only appear in the underground layer, I think. Just hallow out a cavern and put in a number of rows of biome material (ice/snow for ice mimics, stone, dirt... for normal ones). Make sure that the area is larger than your Terraria game window, since creatures only spawn offscreen (or just play the game in a small window while farming). Add water candles and walk around the area. They should spawn eventually.

Yes, that's underground. You should be able to get mimics to spawn in that layer. Or go lower into the cavern layer (when background turns to stone-like texture).

You can farm mimics fullscreen, sure. But creatures in Terraria only spawn offscreen, which is at least partially dependant (as far as I understand game mechanics) on the player's field of view. Meaning that you'll need to either make a larger farm or move around a lot more if you play on fullscreen in order to get the mimics to spawn.

Also, you are in hardmode, right? Mimics don't spawn before then (except by using statues).

yes hardmode, there are too many caves in my world, and the spawning is just like MegaMan!
