Easier way to get Slime Staffs
Forget building an AFK farm with Slime Statues. If you really want to up your chances of getting a Slime Staff, craft one or more stacks of Slime Crowns and grind on the slimes that come out of the King Slime when you hit it. Within 24 hours (late last night and earlier this morning) I managed to get two Slime Staffs. It only took 30 Slime Crowns to get them.

For reference:
4 gold ore = 1 gold bar
30 gold bars + 1 ruby = 1 Gold Crown
1 Gold Crown + 100 gel = 1 Slime Crown

So for 30 Slime Crowns you would need to collect 3,600 gold ore, 30 rubies, and 3,000 gel. The Slime Crowns can be expensive to make so using the item duplication trick will help. And once you have a few stacks, turn Autosave off in your settings. Go through the stacks and if you don't get any Slime Staffs then you can press ctrl+alt+delete, cancel Terraria in your PC's Task Manager, restart Terraria and try again. But I don't think you'll need to do that. You will probably get atleast one Slime Staff per stack if you know how to grind for the slimes effectively.

Hope this helps.

Slime Staves come much faster out of my Slime Statues, and don't cost that much gold. Got 20 of them in chests, just from getting Gel (which I need).

What item duplication trick?

I wouldn't want to turn off Autosave either, or exit a game without saving.

Make a copy of your world file and put it in a different folder. I put mine in the Saved Games folder in my user folder. Then go into your world and take out an item you have stored somewhere. Exit and delete that world through your game's main menu. Exit the game, copy your copied world file back into your Terraria Worlds folder, and enter it in your game. You now have two of the item or two stacks of the item you took out.

That's not a trick, that's cheating. Might as well use map editor and cheat in what you want.

Depends on how you define "cheating." I do think of it as cheating in a way, but then consider that there are no mods or third-party programs involved, you didn't download an all-items map, and you didn't get the item from someone else.

That said, you probably won't even need to use the item duplication trick, regardless of whether you consider it cheating or not. The most expensive part is the gold and you only need 600 gold bars or 7 stacks of gold bars for a full stack of Slime Crowns. That sounds like a lot of gold at first but a well-explored world - even a small one - will give you lots of gold.

You could possibly even get the Slime Staff with only one Slime Crown if you had a low-damage high-DPS ranged weapon like the Snowball Cannon and somewhere to trap the King Slime when you summon it.

Would still consider 5 Slime Statues attached to a crab engine in conjunction with lava/slimes in a closed circuit that connects to a hoika conveyor belt as far more efficient for obtaining Slime Staffs, for it seems with my set-up, I am guaranteed at least 1 Slime Staff for every 15 minutes that pass. Furthermore, I wouldn't need to search for Silt/Slush for rubies (or just searching for the thing itself) and it would 100% free to me costing me nothing but time to use. Versus this method of obtaining Slime Staffs, I could use said gold ore for much better things too, like Spelunker Potions instead of spending it with reckless abandon on a single Slime Crown.

And, to me, that one way of obtaining additional crowns would be completely illegitimate and ruin the challenge of obtaining Slime Staffs in a legitimate manner.

Suit yourself. With what I had on-hand, it was quicker and easier for me to make a stack of Slime Crowns than it was to design an AFK slime farm and then just sit there waiting (which I am not very good at doing, anyway).

BTW, I made all of the Slime Crowns because I was grinding for the Slimy Saddle and thought I would share an alternative way to get Slime Staffs. And I didn't use the item duplication trick, either. I merely suggested it because making Slime Crowns might be more difficult to do in a newer world.
