Beehive Problems

Hey guys, do you have any strategys on finding beehives? I'm in hardmode and haven't found the hives yet.

Beehives spawn at world creation, not when you enter hardmode.

And the only strategy to find them is to search through the underground jungle. On one of my (large) worlds, I found six of them.

Ehem, I know. I cant find any and I was asking for ways to find them easily, like turning into a ghost (which didn't work). I added the hardmode part so i can tell you I haven't found it for a long time. I have a medium World btw.

Also, is it possible to not have any beehives at all?

Turning into a ghost won't help you. Ghosts don't have any light sources of their own so you are only going to be able to see things in the jungle clearly once they've been lit up artificially via torches and whatnot. There may still be many places in your world's jungle you haven't explored yet.

When you make a hardcore character and they die. You can use the ghost afterwards to explore the map without worrying about enemies. That was most likely what Minerraria256 meant.

the ghost method could work.... but only if a hive is near lava
if you have no issues with using them, you could use a map viewer to find where they are and how many you have if you really want to.... but some see that as cheating
if those methods dont work.... just keep looking around. Use Spelunker Potions.... they light up breakables as well as ores and gems. You could maybe locate a hive in the darkness you would not have found otherwise because it should light up the queen bee spawner. (if spelunker potion doesnt do it, then maybe hunter should do it.... I know one potion or another works, its just been forever since I played and used any potions)

hives usually spawn at the edges of the map, maybe dig around the jungle and dig through any big spots on the minimap and youll eventulaly find one.

Um, the reason why I said the ghost didn't work is because it didn't have light, like you all are saying, so don't think I'm dumb or something. Jacob, my game lags from time to time, but it's not slow.
