How do I get rid of yellow square when using pickaxe?

For some reason, lately when I use the pickaxe there is a yellow square that tells me what I am mining at. It is very annoying as it prevents me from mining things more than 1 square away plus it's ugly and uneccessary. How do I get rid of it?

That yellow square's the smart cursor, which is actually pretty useful sometimes. If you want to dig towadr a specific spot on the screen (like maybe, straight down for a hellevator or toward a chest revealed by a spelunker potion) just point your cursor at that spot.

Other times, it does get in the way and prevent you from mining what you want to mine. By default, the smart cursor can be toggled by the left control key. You can switch this to hold mode, where you must hold the key down to get the smart cursor.

Your best solution is to just hit the control key.

I had the same problem when "smart" cursor was added. It really annoyed me but I found out after a while. Glad to see you got an answer.

Edited in 2020 just to fix a spelling mistake because looking back to see it upset me.
