i used the jungle armour when i played as a mage. i beat wall of flesh with the armour. and a lot of buffs :)

specre armore is the best magic armor in hardmode pre-hardmode ts jungle or metior armor

Hey thanks for telling me, im more of a fighing mage I find swords sometimes not too good (especially against bosses)

Yeah, I don't really either. I'm more of a melee fighter, but I tend to use projectile melee attacks for bosses (Boomerangs/Maces/Guns) The only bosses I really use swords on is Eater/Destroyer, Brain, and WoF

If you want a more battle-oriented magic user then go with the Meteor Armor. You get a good magic damage bonus, more defense, and unlimited use with the Space Gun if you have the full set.

Wizard hat has +15% Magic Damage (set bonus with a robe is +10% Magic Crit chance)

Gem Robe has +xx mana (depends on gems) and -15% mana usage
or
♥♥♥♥♥ Robe (from traveling merchant) + 6% Magic damage and Crit chance, and -10% mana usage

Just add either Meteor boots for more damage% or Jungle boots for more crit%

Not really sure why so many seem to suggest Junlge set when it's worse in everything except for having 6 more defense. Meteor set makes sense if you wish to use the gun though.

You need full sets for the bonuses. The only thing the boots alone will give you is higher defense.

The damage and crit on them is for the individual pieces, set bonus is different. Meteor set bonus is for the gun and the jungle bonus is for less mana usage or more mana (i forget).

if you want to be an offensive mage, get wizard hat, ♥♥♥♥♥ robe and meteor boots.
else, just get the meteor set or the jungle set.

Yep, the jungle boots alone give 20 mana and 3% magic crit, you don't need the full set to gain this AND the wizard hat + gem robe bonus will still be active (+ 10% magic crit)
So, with the wizard hat + gem robe set you gain
+15% magic damage
+100 mana (if using the diamond robe)
+10% magic crit
-15% mana usage
+20 mana (if using the jungle boots)
+3% magic crit(same as above)

Even if you use the full Jungle set you won't gain as much bonuses as this

Well It depends on what paths or branches you down.

Meteor is usually the essential choice, because you just need to mine a source while fighting off a few respawning enemies. With the extra magic damage and the unique ability to use space gun infinitely, it makes a very well rounded magic set.

Jungle/anc. cobalt is a set that aids in mana effiency and quantity, despite the lack of magic power; it still receives a magic critical strike chance gain. This one is usually seen as a second hand choice considering that it take a while to make all pieces and even more to wait for the cobalt pieces to drop.

Now a category that is quite uncommon (but not useless at all), is the robe armor + hat set.

Well now this set comes in two varieties.

There is the wizard hat (rare) and the magic hat (sold from travelling merchant).

If paired with any gem robe(emerald, ruby, diamond etc.) or ♥♥♥♥♥ robe, you will receive either an additional quantity of mana from the magic hat and an additional 10% crit chance from the wizard hat.

For maximum dps: Wizard hat + ♥♥♥♥♥ robe + meteor leggings.

This adds a 28% increase in magic damage and a 16% increase in magic critical strike chance.

For maximum mana: Magic hat + diamond robe + jungle pants.

This adds an increase of 160 mana, +7% magic damage and a 10% increase in magic critical strike chance.
