My platinum seems to have vanished into thin air
So, I'm not sure what happened here. I was moving some coins off myself into my piggy bank. At one piont I made a stack of 100 gold coins. I don't know how or why but a stack of 5 platinum just seems to have vanished entirely and I couldn't find it anywhere.

Is this some kind of known bug? Is there anything I should do to avoid triggering it in the future?

I'm honestly not that upset, even though that was most of my money... money isn't *that* important in Terraria. I would just rather this doesn't happen again. :-(

EDIT: Just to be clear this happened in a single player game, not an online server, so it's not like someone else stole my money. It just... vanished.

Everytime you die, you lose a chunk of your money.

I had no deaths during this play session. Deaths also don't affect money in piggy banks.

We're talking literally I was shuffling stacks of coins and my platinum just vanished.

Did you use the quick stack option to deposit your money? Quick stack has been known to cause bugs when stacking money since a few updates back. Usually it's the smaller currencies that are lost, though. Still, it's usually a good idea to stack your money manually to prevent any losses.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly by quick stack, sorry.

When you open a storage item such as a piggy bank, there's an option that says "Quick Stack". When you click it, everything in your inventory that can stack is moved to any stacks of the same item in the chest with available room. But there's a bug with the money-stacking where it'll simply delete some coin stacks if there are no available stacks of that kind in the chest and all chest slots are filled.

Ah I see. Well that isn't what I did, but that is good to know thank you. I must have caused something similar to happen manually I guess, or maybe I accidentally trashed them... though I can't think of how. Thanks anyway.

Okay. In that case, how exactly did you move them? Did you click, move your mouse, click again? A lot of people used to playing Minecraft try to shift-click to move items, which trashes items in Terraria instead.

Yeah I was just clicking things to move them. I made a stack of 100 gold coins, then went to set it down and my existing platinum stack went... somewhere... It's almost as if I somehow accidently changed a stack of 5 platinum into 5 gold. But I'm not sure how or why that happened.

In that case, I have no idea. You can use an inventory/world editor like TEdit to get your money back, though.
