Regarding your problems with TEdit, if you downloaded it from the correct source, you should get a zipped folder with a .msi installer file in it. If you got the right download and you can't see or can't run this file, it probably means it isn't compatible (unfortunately I can't find any information about its compatibility with Windows 8. I'd imagine it should be, though). The correct download source should be here[www.binaryconstruct.com].
And about Adfly ads, once the timer counts down there should be a button that says "SKIP AD". Click this, and don't click on anything else.
I see..
well i found the lime kelps the old fashioned way.
there's actually a trick to it, i read on the wiki. just run around the ice biome and reveal the map then go home and look on your map screen, the kelps are marked as green pixel sized squares.
they are almost impossible to see, i walked past half a dozen of them.
I really hate the ice biome because the passageways are frequently not connected and it forces you to dig, but I went into mole partol with the shroomite claws.
as for the adfly thing, wow they are dirty. really, really sleazy.
it says "you download will start in 5 seconds" it counts down 5,4,3,2,1
and then at the same time "skip ad" appears in the corner, a popup appears right over the countdown and it says "your download is ready, click here to download" and its actually a third party program...♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I didn't fall for it, I knew better than that, but I had no idea the secret download link was the skip ad button...I did notice in the youtube video, it looked like the guy hovered his cursor over skip ad but he never explained it in his video.
I guess if T edit doesn't highlight stuff, I don't need it.
although I considered it might be fun to "paint in" my own world with all the obstacles and treasures and stuff where I want it and challenge myself with a new toon but that seems pointless as I would know where everything is already.
or I could use it to fill in all those little cracks just under the surface crust layer so enemies stop spawning down there in my farms...
I'd rather play the game normally anyway, i finally got a legit terra blade today.
You really just have to learn to pay attention to your environment and look for the little details, which there are a lot of in Terraria. It was the boulder and dart traps that trained me to pay attention while spelunking.
Also, you may have noticed already, but lime kelp only spawns underwater, so that should narrow down the number of possible locations.
I actually didn't know it did that, probably because my browser blocks most popups. But that sounds like something they'd do, and fake download links like that are not that uncommon in advertising, either. A way you can avoid them is to hover your mouse over the link so that the target URL displays at the bottom of the screen, and then you can judge whether it looks legit or not (usually it'll have something like "ads" or "googleads" in it if it's a trick).
A lot of people like to use it to make custom or "adventure" maps for other people to play. Some of these are just slightly-altered normal worlds, but a lot of them have environments builts entirely from scratch with custom stories to go along with them. If you're interested in them, or you just want to see what kinds of possibilities there are, a few I'd recommend are A Link to Terraria/Adventure! (they're both the same map, but different versions have different names), Revenge!, Starraria (one of the few maps to incorporate hardmode content), and Terrarivania. Making adventure maps is a pretty fun pastime if you like Terraria but you've already gotten everything there is to get out of the singleplayer experience. I've been working on a couple adventure maps myself, but haven't finished any of them yet.
Yeah, I used it up until it got abandoned and I had to switch over to MoreTerra. It was a lot better, but unfortunately it seems like MoreTerra is the best thing we have to work with now.
