solar eclipse

okay, i'm sure there is like...a million threads about this already...but...

how the F do you get a solar eclipse?!
is there a trick to it?


i've played this game over 500 hours since i bought it years ago, and i have NEVER seen a solar eclipse.

the wiki says it has a 1/25 chance of happening each day.

so like...24 cycle * 25 = 600 minutes, so if I played the game in a 10 hours straight marathon, I MIGHT see 1 solar ecplise?

i do sometimes play the game all day long and i never get an eclipse.

do I have to actually be on the surface or else the game won't announce it?
is it possible that i have missed several ecplises, because I was down in my underground corruption farming souls?

I found all the key molds, got just about every item in the game, except the broken hero sword because I can't get an ecplise.
this thing is so rare..and yet EVERYONE seems to have the terra sword

thatks, but I don't want someone to just "give" it to me, or use hamachi servers to make an eclipse happen. I wanted to get it on my own accord

the irony is that the horseman's blade is superior to the terra blade and it's so much easier to get

Juat as random as a Blood Moon, except the world has to be on hardmode and a mech boss slain somewhere within it. There really isn't any way to get it than by pure luck, but when it does happen, and you get lucky with drops, you can skip a lot of the game.

Though you have to beat the Mechanical Trio before that, and then it's a roughly 1/32 chance of happening

is because RNG m8. it works in mysterious ways.
but there's actually a trick that will get you a solar eclipse without waiting. first of all, go to your hellforge and craft a iamp banner with 2 fire imp banner's and a A statue(heavy workbench) and your set. place it down and the chance per day for a solar eclipse is drastically increased. you can increase it further with up to 4 iamp banners, and any further are just cosmetic. if your REALLY impatient you can pray to iamp thanking him for the life you've been given and a solar eclipse instantly happens.

do I have to be on the surface to see the message for the solar eclipse? will the game spawn a solar eclipse if I am underground or in the dungeon?
is it possible that I have missed multiple eclipses because I spend too much time underground without going back to the surface?

i was suspicious, because I have never had a blood moon while underground, my blood moons always seem to happen when i'm on the surface, clearing land or sorting stuff in my town

You don't have to beat the Mechanical trio. You only have to beat one of the Mechanical bosses for Solar Eclipse to become possible.

Also, not to be "that guy" but I'm going to be that guy and say if you are claiming you have "never" had a Blood Moon while you are underground in 500 hours of play, I simply don't believe you. I've been playing less than 75 and it's happened at least a half dozen times, if not into double digits.

i admit, I may have seen the blood moon message in the "underground layer" which is the section just below the surface, but once I descend into the "caverns layer" which is the very large part in between before you get into the "underworld layer".
I have never seen the game display a blood moon message while i was in the underworld or the caverns.
considering this, I spend a good amount of time in the deeper layers, in the jungle looking for plantera bulbs, in the deep hallow and the deep corruption and I have never seen eclipse or blood moon messages in these spots.
maybe it is a coincidence, but I only ever see blood moon messages when I am near the surface, so i wondered if eclipses are happening up above and the game is just not telling me
