Does this game have local multiplayer for PC?

Looked through the entire internet and only thing I could find is a three year old thread, but things could have changed since. Can anyone with the game confirm or deny? I really want to be able to plug in four controllers and play with my friends.

Not sure. If worse comes to worse, you can always either set up a server or play through Evolve or Hamachi.

yes it does, just host and connect via local IP.. 127.0.0.1 or something similar, it should work, or like terezi said, setting up a server isn't hard, they even give you software in your terraria files... (c:\programfiles(x86)\steam\steamapps\common\terraria\TerrariaServer) in case you didnt know.

I don;t think you guys understood me correctly.. I want to be able to play on a single PC with some of my friends, not host a LAN.

No it doesn't have any form of local multiplayer. You'll need at least two computers if you want to play with friends.

Yeah. In that case, no it does not. The console version allows for that, though.

I think it was possible using an external mod, and you can use keyboard+mouse or controllers.

You will find it in the game's modding forums.

Let's hope they add it the to Steam Workshop, now that the game has Workshop. It should be more simple to impmement this way.

The console versions have splitscreen + map feature.

There is a mod called split screen. It allows you to open Terraria twice on your pc and set up so that each instance of terraria uses a different keyboard, mouse or controller. No this isn't and will not be available in the workshop. It's a mod which means it is only useable through TMOD or by manually install. TMOD is not up to date for 1.4 so you would have to install it manually if you can figure out how to do that.
Currently, there is no other way to get local coop/multiplayer for Terraria on PC.
