Multiplayer Without Third-Party Software
Hello, this is 38911 and something that has been bothering me since the first time I ever played Terraria back in 2012 there isn't really a way to go Multiplayer without using software that is not part of the game [Hamachi Client].
I am wondering, has anyone figured out a way to play without using it?
If not, I wonder if we might gain access without using anything else but the game's software to play in future patches.
Seeing how Mojang has approached the way Multiplayer works I see no reason why Re-Logic might not approach this from a new nature.

Please tell me what you think about this.

You have to port foward, it's the same way as with Minecraft.

You just need to port forward to be able to play with build in Multiplayer mode. That's all.

I think you have no idea how computing networking works.

Yes I do. [Basic]
And that's why it bothers me.

Sometimes he has some real things to say... Other times, he just spews idiocy, but than again, so do I.

No you don't, as someone else mentioned it's the exact same thing for Mojang's game. You need to forward ports to host a server. Which means that it depends on what kind of router/modem/ISP you have. Some are just not capable, some ISP's don't allow it, but for most routers it's actually quite simple.

To answer your original question, yes I have forwarded the ports in my router and I can host servers for both games just fine.

On another note, rumor has it that the 1.3 update will have the option to invite other people to your game through Steam, which will hopefully get rid of all the "join my IP 127.0.0.1" posts on this forum >.>

You still have to port forward, so the people who ask to join 127.0.0.1 are almost guaranteed to not have port forwarded.

We're probably going to see a crapton more of those threads since they'll be convinced they don't have to port forward.

Oh look OP, you just got #rekt. Because I never have anything relevant to say and then like 3 people come and prove I do.

Now go out, and buy yourself some ice.
@Unicarn & Epic Timing, could you guys explain what "port forward" is and what it means? I've always hosted game with friends using the ip method + Hamatchi - what does "port forward" do?

In a nutshell, it exposes your local network to the internet so people can directly connect to your server over the internet without using a VPN (Hamachi and Evolve are essentially VPNs).

If you want the more technical explanation, ask me.
