Can't connect to multiplayer servers?

Whenever I try to join a multiplayer server I get stuck on the "connecting to..." page. Tried joining different servers, but still got the same problem. I've been able to connect to them in the past, but recently (maybe it has something to do with the update?) I've had no luck.. any suggestions?

ok, been searching the forums and online for quite sometime now. I have the same problem as sandbad does. According to terraria's website, the server software download is 1.2.4, yet I cannot even connect to my own server; let alone my friend. So is it really just a difference in server versions, or is it a bug of some sort with the update?

forward port or if you are the only one that will play on that server use localhost or 127.0.0.1

ports are forwarded. firewall rules in place. the whole 9. use portchecker to verify port is open and it is. localhost, 127.0.0.1, or even trying my own IP still wont let me in. figured honestly it was a bug of somesort in terraria. considering we can host and play minecraft and killing floor. me and my friend coulnt find any solution. Ive seen several places where people use hamachi or the like but we dont want to go that route. It simply gives me the message "found server" when i go to connect. For him it says connecting. And in my server command window i can see where he is connecting, yet it will not complete. Very strange.

If in my setup, what do you suggest could be causing it? I've had the server working fine previously. Any help you could provide would be appreciated.

well you could always try to reset the network adapters: open cmd with administrator right then type : netsh int ip reset

Just attempted this. no luck there either.

im having the exact same issue and iv never had issues in the past. iv also tried hamachi and the same problem presents itself. iv been tweeking with terraria for 2 days now trying to get it to work please help

I've had this same issue (that no one ever replied to...) but I just reinstalled Terraria and my server hosting began working again. Maybe that'll work if you haven't tried.

tried reinstalling now, alos verfiying the game catch. no luck still as of yet. ive been trying a couple days myself. Watching this thread here, plus i have thread going on the official forums on terraria to. no response or fix yet, but ty for the help.

Im also haveing the same problem. i bought terraria today and opened it up. it all worked normally. i went to connect to the ip and then the port but it just stayed saying Connecting to (server ip) (port). PLEASE HELP AND FIND FIX ;(

I completely forgot about this thread. Two years goes by fast. I do think there was a bug that has since cleared up. However, if you have issues try this. I have determined what my particular issue was with the multiplayer. (Also, may help that my networking classes shed some light on this as well.) If you are hosting the server yourself, make sure that you have the ports forwarded on your router correctly. There are websites that help with your particular model. Once that is setup, configure your firewall rules to allow the port number(I believe 7777 is the default) to run on TCP(some also suggest allowing UDP,however that could present potential security risks). My particular issue was that my antivirus is running a firewall of its own as well. Make sure that if you have another firewall, it is either turned off, or the rules are configured correctly for it as well. (better idea to just have one firewall, as two can create some issues). There are many videos, and tutorials for each of these steps online that a google search will help you find. Also, there are websites that can tell you if the port is open. If you are not hosting, make sure the host has his rules configured correctly. Hope this helps some, or points you in the right direction at least.

i finally fixed the problem. i did all of this random crap and finally worked. i did like 5 different things but i didnt know what fixed the problem

I can't connect my Terraria 1.3.5.3 once I got the Patcher, a Cheat for Terraria, I can't connect to IP Address and Host and Play, i'm not sure about Via Steam though, I have not tried that because I can't play with my terraria user friends.
