Hey :D, 1st you need a fishing pole, the lowest teir one is made out of just wood (8 pieces i think) it can be made at a work bench. Next you need bait, any insect will do (worms, butterflies, etc.) you can catch these with a bug net, it can be baught from the merchant for 1 gold. once you have your bait and fishing pole, go to any body of water (ocean is best) and click to cast your rod (start fishing). When you see the rod bob in the water, click again and if your'e fast enough, you caught a fish! :D

Just craft a rod, get some bait, and then, with the bait in your inventory, use the rod next to a body of water (the bait is used automatically from left to right and top to bottom, like ammo). Once the hook starts wriggling, click to reel it in. You may also want to use Sonar Potions if you don't want to pull up Bass every time, since Sonar Potions allow you to see what's on the hook, and then you can decide if you want to reel it in or wait for something else. No bait will be used if you just ignore the bite, so Sonar Potions are a godsend.

You will need a bug net to capture bugs for bait initially. Once you get into the swing of things however, you won't really need to catch more bait, the Angler will typically give more than enough for your purposes.

i get a sword(any sword) and get in the water and find a fish. once you find one slay it. the fish should be in your inventory. from there you can craft your stew.

Um, excuse me? What are you talking about? Goldfish haven't dropped items on death since 1.2.2, and besides we're talking about fishing here, which doesn't involve swords of any kind.
