off: 1 core
2: 2 cores
3: 3 cores
4: 4 cores
depending on your CPU model, changing this setting may give you better performance, worse performance or it does nothing at all.
The more cores you have, the better the games runs =/
it's also more of a "technical-blah enthusiast" setting, besides to being a potential fix for performance issues.
for instance, you got 4 cores in your CPU and you have certain power saving features enabled, like " c-state" at your BIOS (because you want less temps in idle, your hugging trees or you wanna decrease your power bill) and everytime, your CPU isn't in use that much, it can shutdown some cores, depending on what specific power saving settings you have enabled or disabled.
now, if you'd disable "multicore lighting" and your PC can run terraria well with just 1 core, the other 3 cores can get shut off by your power saving settings.
so, perfect for netbook/laptop users to increase their battery life while playing.
No idea, best thing is to try it out yourself. Haven't played the game in a while.
Not at all, your cpu will limit itself to 4 cores but put those cores at a higher speed when it feels necessary, best bet is to just let it be
