(It would actually be wiser for you to explore the dungeon first after beating skeletron, so you can pick up some loot items/weapons)
You may just have to grind through mobs as you traverse through hell.Spawning gets you only so far, you'll need to force them to spawn 'manually' by killing them. Spears are good for the bone serpents and id recommend a gun like the 'boomstick' for other mobs (because of the spread shots that can inflict multiple instances of damage), with a reserve melee weapon for bats and the occasional slime that gets too close.
Ah well. Correlation does not imply causation... Anyways, what about the amount of spawning surfaces? Can demons spawn out of this air? I've noticed that no mob seems to be able to spawn just in air, not even worms - they always start out inside a block. Only possible exception I can think of is Harpies and Wyvrens (and bosses, of course), simply because they spawn so high up.
Not true. In the current patch they still increase spawn rate when placed.
It's how the dungeon works with spawning excessive amounts of skeletons.
It's probably the case that voodoo demons spawn anyway, i've had a guide die due to a failed first attempt at WoF and still voodoo demons appeared despite him being dead and having another queued up NPC living in his house as a replacement.
I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. In my second world, I killed the guide by summoning the wall BEFORE I built any housing. I later had to build a house there, just so that the guide could respawn, so I could fight the wall again.
Unless they changed that in the last patch...
That's really weird, it's almost exactly the opposite of what I found. I found that if I stay in the same spot, I get more things coming to kill me - I found barely any demons if I ran along the bridge I made (with spectre boots). Maybe it has to do with speed or something, but running with spectre boots when you're trying to get dolls does NOT seem like a good idea!
Ah, thanks for correcting him. I would have thought the wrong for who knows how long if you hadn't.
