The only blocks that can get corrupted are Sand, Cobblestone and Grass block.(Dirt with grass on top)
Dirt without any grass can not be corrupted, but corrupted grass can spread to it and in time turn everything in to corruption.(If you want to use a dirt barrier make sure there are no grass blocks near by.)
Snow biome is pratically immune to corruption or hallow btw. Unless corrupted ice grow all the way up near the surface, you wont see any corrupted monsters around.
