The new Beetle Armor is... not good?
The new Warrior set, for anyone who's interested, is like this:

Helm: 23 Defense, +6% melee damage.
Legs: 18 Defense, +6% melee speed, +6% movement speed.
Chest1: 20 Defense, +8% melee damage, +8% melee crit, +6% melee damage, +6% movement speed
Chest2: 32 Defense, +5% melee damage, +5% melee crit

It's basically made by upgrading Turtle Armor using Beetle parts from the Golem.

Edit: Set bonuses are as follows:

Chest1: "Beetles increase your melee damage and speed"; as you hit and kill things, beetles appear and buff your damage (they disappear after a very short while of not hurting/killing anything). My Hammer went from 157 to 193 damage with 3 beetles, so the set bonus is actually quite good. I don't know how attack speed was affected but if it's anywhere as good, it's pretty awesome.

Chest2: "Beetles protect you from damage"; 3 beetles follow you, one dies when you take a hit, and they regenerate after a little while, but they don't seem to affect how much damage you take.

One big problem: I tested the Frost Moon (using the newly-nerfed North Pole) with both the offensive Beetle set and the old Hallowed set. And Hallowed performed the same (actually a bit better). That means, either the North Pole nerf involves some sort of hard cap on DPS, or the new set is kind of ♥♥♥♥ (it's a *lot* more expensive and harder to craft than Hallowed, but is barely as good).

I approve of this armor, though I dont see much use for chest1 with that 6 damage reduction on chest2. Regardless, I want this stuff. I love how melee is actually viable compared to magic with this update.

Well, in the endgame, 6 damage reduction doesn't prevent you from dying anywhere as much as increased heart drops from killed bosses, and DPS is all the more precious because it increases not only heart drops but also the amount of loot that you get.

Melee was actually by far the strongest setup for the Moon events, and it seems the North Pole wasn't nerfed *that* much (it still looks pretty damn strong to me) this update, and if the set bonuses on this armor are good, melee might remain the best option this patch too.

I too am currently attempting to enjoy the Beetle Scale Mail set, but I have to wonder what the thing about beetles buffing melee speed and damage. The Shell gives you 3 beetles, but not the Scales.

...
What the ♥♥♥♥
When was melee EVER the best setup for the pumpkin moon. Spectre set was easily better.

It's true that before the introduction of the North Pole, a magic setup was much better for the Pumpkin Moon, but...

Between the introduction of the North Pole and now, a melee setup was by far the best. With the North Pole and Hallowed Armor, I get over 200 trophies and over 25 platinum's worth of stuff per Pumpkin Moon. And I don't use any traps.

Given that the North Pole was well over twice as strong as the Blizzard Staff until the nerf that just happened, it's quite possible that it's still the strongest weapon in the game.

Pah :jarate:ing on people magically was always the best item in the game.

Figured out the scale mail. You get a beetle that lasts ~3 seconds per mob kill.
Okay... rather on enemy hit.

Yeah, it's not easy to figure out, I killed three weak mobs in quick succession and didn't seem to get more than 1 beetle. Heh.

Increases damage by approximately two metric ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I went from 153 to 163 with just one beetle up.

Its 10% damage and atk speed on melee per beetle. I think the cap mgiht be 2. It also seems to be a % based proc per hit. I.E. each time you hit an enemy, you have a chance at a beetle spawn. Was lucky enough to get a Solar Eclipse a mintue ago.

Damn, a metric ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is only 5 damage?
How do you even hold up that sword?

Spaghetti, is it necessary to be a douche in every forum post?
Diet Dr. Beta Feb 13, 2014 @ 5:57pm
Yep, can't have more than 2 beetles.

You good at math, man.

Well, only one way to find out how good this new armor is. I always made it to exactly Wave 19 of the Frost Moon on every attempt, so if I can still make it there even with the North Pole being nerfed, then it's better than Hallowed.
