Oh, I might be wrong about the defense, (been a while since I have Crimson Armor .-.) but it still gives a +6% damage bonus, plus increased life generation.
Alright! A good method of grinding gold coins is to sell things that you don't need to an NPC, or to farm bosses for their loot!
Wouldn't bows obselete if I get a minishark?
Not necessarily.
The Minishark's base damage is super low (6). With musket balls it climbs up to 13. Skeletron's head absorbs 5 damage per hit and his hands absorb 7 damage per hit; that's a big percentage of your damage.
The Tendon Bow has a base damage of 19, and Jester's Arrows (which have piercing properties) have a damage of 9 for a total of 28.
Losing 5 or 7 damage from each 28-power hit isn't anywhere as bad as losing 5 or 7 damage on each 13-power hit, and being able to hit multiple parts with each arrow is a good thing.
The bow does only fire one for every 3-4 Minishark shot though, so you'll do just about as much damage with the Minishark just because it fires so quickly.
If you have a surplus of Meteorite, you can make Meteor Shot which will make the Minishark better than the Tendon Bow with Jester's Arrows. It will also gain piercing properties.
Ultimately the Minishark with Meteor Shot is better, but a bow would work just fine.
Personally I just used a mid-power magic gem staff.
