Most of the fun I have in the game involves testing out new base or fortress ideas, new design challenges, new materials, etc. Also, it's fun to find out what the differences are when dealing with a small vs. large world, or hilly vs. flat, or one with purity well-protected by snow and other buffers vs. spawning quite near corruption. Figuring out how to meet these challenges is my favorite thing!
As I feared there isn´t THE solution.
I´m also worried that deconstruction might take longer than building something new and also I´ve started with a small map and I´ve already discovered quite a lot of it.
Maybe I´ll look for a cloud first (that sounded like a nice idea) and will then restart at another map.
I see it coming: I´ll probably just wait untill I have to build more defenses and will switch to a new map because I´m too lazy for hard mode :D
Thanks again for the tip!
After you're done or after getting a few rooms, just put a bed and reassign the rooms to the NPCs that you need there as being critical NPCs. Then keep adding as needed.
I would still leave the other house instead of tearing it down. It can still be used as storage or as a secondary base. For example, in my case, I have several backup bases all over the world map to do different things, and they all need the basic room/bed/chests setup anyway.
