Your ocean will look more blue than it did before.

It will get taken over by hallow..... duh?

Stuff will happen.

Stuff.

So it won't change anything but the looks of it? If so, then I'm glad to know.

I'm pretty sure corruption, crimson, and hallow spawns will override ocean spawns. So it's generally a good idea to keep your ocean pure if you want stuff like black and purple dye or shark fins. Pirate maps will still drop, though.

It'll become a hallowed desert biome, at least for the coast and water near it (probably including water near the ocean floor once it spreads that far). Spawns far enough from the coast shouldn't be affected too much by hallow, as unlike crimson it lacks an underwater-specific spawn. That said, it's still inadvisable to allow it to spread into the ocean biome.

It will no longer count as ocean for fishing either if hallowed blocks are too close to you when fishing as hallow overrides ocean - though you'll probably still be able to get ocean catches if you go far enough out to sea that the sand type beneath it isn't taken into account.

On the upside, enemies killed close enough to a sufficient quantity of hallowed blocks have a chance to drop a hallowed key, and for fishing it essentially becomes a massive hallow lake when fishing from the coast. That said, there are much more controlled methods of using the ocean to farm hallowed keys and there's no doubt suitable hallowed lakes somewhere in your world already - or at least places where they can be easily made.

will it still count as an ocean when it comes to pirate map drops? if so, in this particular way, it could be cool to have one ocean turned hallow as it will most likely have an increased spawn rate and therefore better pirate map drop rates..?
This... this is what I am asking.

In the older versions (I forget how far back) a Hallowed Ocean would lose its "oceanness". These days it just means Hallow stuff will appear as well as ocean stuff. More or the same with both evil types too.

You'll likely always have one pure ocean, since the dungeon blocks almost anything from spreading over to the ocean behind it.

If Duke Fishron spawns, he'll get enraged, so Hardmode another world or de-Hallow the Ocean
