Fossil armor: Most Overpowered prehardmode armor
Pair it with grenades (Or bouncy grenades for a bit more damage and arcing) To become an extreme crowd control beast. Since the grenades to 70 damage (And more then 100 with criticals). You pretty much make almost every prehardmode boss look weak.

After I raided a dungeon

1 ancient iron helmet

1 bone wand

1 ancient necro helmet

235+ bones

several golden chest loot

You can pretty much dominate goblin armies with this.

Well, I wouldn't say that a goblin army is ever a problem.

Problem with fossil armor is that you can only get it after worm/brain. You need a pickaxe to mine it and explosions don't work. You need a total of 75 sturdy fossils to make it and putting desert fossil into the extractinator doesn't garantue a sturdy fossil.

At this point of the game you have access to meteorite as well which is a valid option. And you can get all normal armor sets before fossil except molten.

>70 damage splash damage item that can be obtained easily

>a throwing item that can cause a 18 DoT affect which is quite high for prehardmode

>knives that look sexy.

The catch with Fossil Armor is that you get it "late" in pre-Hardmode... but it's a catch that you can easily bypass.

See, you don't need to *kill* the Eater/Brain to get a good Pick. Boss segments drop the scales or tissue when they die, not when the boss as a whole dies. You could be a pretty new character with 140 HP, drink an Ironskin potion, and as long as you can kill a few segments with Grenades before you're killed, you can get the Pick almost at the very beginning of the game.

Alternatively, the Reaver Shark only requires decent fishing ability and lets you get an even better Pick very early.

Fossil Armor *is* potentially pretty damn good, if only because Grenades are kind of OP.
