Does hallow/corruption spread while your game is off?

I just want to know if corruption/hallow spreads while I don't have terraria on.

oh tottally, and when you come back your world will be flooded with corruption

Singleplayer, no.

Multiplayer, depends on how you have it setup. It probably does spread if the world is up with no one on it but won't if the server is closed.

Well, I play with my friend. I use the host and play, when I leave he gets kicked off. Does this mean I'm good?

Yes, if you're not on then the world isn't up with Host & Play.
