But I find it fun to use when mobs line themselves up in a row with Luminite bullets since it'll kill all of them, a sniper rifle with a Ruthless prefix is also pretty great PvP tool since you can one shot pretty much anyone with a great accessory combination and Vortex/Shroomite stealth.
How is a slow firing gun good against tons of enemies? If they line up yeah, but as I said above, you can get any rapid firing gun and shotgun anything to death. The chain gun is the perfect example. Normally it's used with chloro, for bosses and that kind of thing, but when I farmed for specific items I just use the infinite ammo pouch and get close enough to negate the inacuraccy.
Second, no, I don't think it has any good use another weapon cannot cover.
Yet I disagree with your "off topic"; there are plenty of options, as we rangers get to choose the bullets. DPS wise a SDMG with chlorophite is a beast, but it uses a lot of very expensive ammo. If there's a crowd, explosive or crystal is wiser; chlorophite if you cannot aim (or way too far), and the new ones for segmented enemies. (Shortest destroyer EVER).
As of weapons... Personally I use both the SDMG and the allmighty tactical shotgun. Sdmg for bosses, shotgun for general quality of life and ammo saving.
Fun fact: Everytime a mob spawns in the dungeon, it has a 1/7 chance of spawning as a mob of another wall type than the one the "spawned" mob is. I actually saw a skeleton sniper, only once, but it dropped the rifle scope that I was able to use to make the emblem. I still got a bit lucky.
Less fun fact: The wall type is the one that spawns the rocket launcher wielders, which is completely useless because of the straight upgrade from Frost Moon. So the tactical shotgun is, yet again, not an option.
Do you think there will be another major update? I doubt it since Moon Lord is apparently the "final boss". I always start a fresh world and character each major update.
I really wouldn't mind paying 15-20 euros for an expansion. Hell I'll pay 100 euros for another 3 or 4 years of regular updates.
Else, well, you aren't missing a lot...
Although that shotgun...
However, a high-damage slow-firing weapon means that the opponent's Defense matters much, much less. So against high-Defense opponents where weapons like the Megashark are trash, a Sniper Rifle might just do better.
It also consumes special ammo at a much, much slower rate.
The main problem is... how long would you use it? It becomes available after Plantera. By then the only bosses/events remaining are Golem, Martian Madness, Fishron and Lunar. I guess you could use it to kill Fishron?
Personally, I've never seen much use for it. Then again I rarely play Ranged during progression...
The SCOPE on the other hand is worth making a world for if you're a fan of bullet weapons.
As for the ammo topic, I only switch to chlorophyte for bosses. rest of the time I use endless pouch and I get real close and personal to negate the spray (if any).
Yes, I mentioned above that I got very lucky for the scope. All mobs in the dungeon have a small chance of spawning as a mob of another wall type, so I got a skeleton sniper (the one and only I ever saw in this world), and it dropped the scope.
I don't really like the zoom though. Maybe if it were a toggle, but having to keep right mouse pressed down is kind of annoying. It's used in the emblem though so I kept it.
