So... it has occured to me that when it comes to luminite tier wings, they are unbelievably different, and that for players who just got the Luminite to spend on them, they might not know which ones to pick!

So, this thread exists for people to discuss the pros and cons and their thoughts on each set of wings...

The Vortex Boosters

This was my first pair... and it still remains a very viable set. It was the Vortex Boosters that made me finally step away from the Fishron Wings (a pair of wings that fyi, are practically 2nd best to luminite wings, except in water perhaps).

To quickly summarize the Vortex Boosters... they are the next step up from the Hoverboard.

These wings excel at horizontal travel, offering a total speed of 62 mph. If you want a comparison... aspalt can bring you up to 64 mph...

They can carry you at that speed for about 2 seconds, while their normal flight time and speed is around 3-4 seconds at 33 MPH horizontally, 51 straight up, and 61 diagonally.

Did I mention that they're silent and produce light?

I find that the best use for these wings is travel, and quickly dodging stuff.

The Stardust Wings

These wings are very strange. That's my first and foremost observation. They're strange, and they're kind of like the wings that tried...

Why? On paper, they're underwhelming in comparison. Like the Vortex Boosters, they boast true horizontal travel, and even minor horizontal boost speeds.

The downside? It's at 39 MPH... These wings are not very fast, and you'll notice that easily. Normal horizontal speed is around 28, and straight up, 39 MPH. Diagonally, 48 MPH.

So what are they good at? Turns out... it's hovering! These wings have a hover time of around 7-8 seconds, which is more then enough time to drop a money trough in mid-air and drop your cash or an item or two in it!

Basically... these wings are ok at everything, but excel at nothing (besides hovering).

That being said... they look lovely, and if you wear the full Stardust armor set, they glow brilliantly. They also have faster wing flap speeds (which are the sounds they make).

If there's a good use for such a pair of wings... it's spelunking! Being as slow as they are, they give you quite a lot of control! And it makes sense too! Summoner armor sets are often worn when you wish to do a task and not be hasseled, so having a pair of wings that give you great control of your movements is just par for the course.

The Nebula Mantel??

"What is wrong with you?" was the second thing that came to mind when I tried these wings... the first thing was "ooh, these look nice". In fairness, they do look nice.

But... stat-wise... I'm not sure what's up with them.

For starters... my horizontal move-speed is 15 MPH which fyi... is my normal walking speed! These wings do not help you move horizontally.

What I did end up noticing however, was how fast they got me in the air. They've got quite some amazing acceletation when you travel vertically. It's comparable to the jetpack when you use the vertical boost on it, except you know... for the Mantel, that's their normal speed.

They've get you soaring in record time, since they can achieve a speed of 77 MPH vertically in about 2 seconds. Diagonal movement speed is about 78... It sounds nice... but it's mostly taking you up.

The verdict: Interesting, but not what I'd ever use in typical situations. If you use these, then you'll only be reaching for the very thing they look like: Space.

That being said, if you wear them with the full Nebula set, you'll acquire a shadowy trail that looks neat.

Basically, if you're a mage who wears them, then you're going to be the mage... in the back... way above but behind all of your friends.

On the plus side, you can easily blast your way through a hellevator with these, which at the very least is useful if your bed was underground.

The Solar Wings

Most people say these are the best, and I can see why. (Though admitedly, I can't say that I loved these wings, but that's because of the lack of a hover.)

That being said, they're amazing! If the Stardust wings are for smaller motions, then the Solars are better for rapid ones! These wings are rather fast in quite a lot of aspects, and when in use... give quite the amazing boost to your speed!

46 MPH horizontally, 77 MPH by the end of the 3 second flight (you've got to accelerate to the top speed to reach it after all). 90 MPH diagonally! And... they can reach about the same height as the Nebula Mantels (which only proves how bad the Mantels kind of are...).

Essentially... these wings are a pretty smart decision for combat, and for most people, that's pretty much all they're looking for.

When you wear these wings with the full set, you'll glow orangey-red like a living fire block! (I would have said torch instead, but honestly you glow a lot brighter when you wear the Stardust armor set.)

tl;dr In short... my personal ranking would probably be Vortex ≥ Solars > Fishron > Stardust ≥ Hoverboard > Some other wings ≥ Nebulas > Starter Wings...

The UFO doesn't hold up against the Fishron Mount. The Fishron Mount can easily travel a lot faster, and gives a small increase in damage when your hp goes below 50%. (In fact, I've heard that the Water Gun debuff activates the speed boost for the Fishron Mount, and that lasts about 30 seconds! But... you know, that requires another player.)

Plus, given that I no longer use running boots, I've been left with no other choice but to rely on wings and other sources for traveling.

but fall dmg is annoying as hell if u forget mid fight

Don't forget

I often mount and dismount mid-battle. Falling is faster than flying downward.

Fishron mount is great dont get me wrong but UFO provides the protection from fall dmg and is taking less space on the screen which can save you because it will be easier to "navigate" plus less things happening on the screen

What are you talking about? The Fishron Mount flies too. How are you vulnerable to fall damage?

Well... teleporters are faster honestly. And even before that, you've got rail carts... and the portal gun frozen slime trick.

And you don't even need a lot of track to get across a map easily, all you need to do is launch yourself and add a small ramp wherever you land so you can bounce off that.

That being said, otherwise, I normally just maim myself with the Rod of Discord to below 50% health, and use my Fishron Mount.

the good thing about 1.3 is that you can also put wings as vanity so like me I don't like the look of solar wings so I use flame vanity and solar accessory. So, pick any you want.

There is no 'best' as it's both a matter of opinion and circumstance.

I could say that the Solar Wings are the WORST in a hover contest.
