This Game Seems Flawed
I've played Terraria for serveral days, even on the console versions and I can honestly say it's a very enjoyable game and has tons of potentional, but then later the game it starts to lose it's fun factor once I've unlock Hardmode.

Once I spent hours into hardmode I start to realize how repetetive the game became and it's starts to feel more like a chore the futher I go on and try to build my character, I sometimes even have a feeling that i'm making no progress into it whatsoever or I sometimes can't tell what I should be doing next.

Here's all the problems I've encountered:

- Obtaining items is a huge chore and is very time consuming (To get this item you must craft it with this item, to get that item you must kill this boss, to summon that boss you must do this, to do that you must wait until this rare event happens).

- Hardmode ores are a pain to find that I had to create a new world just to find more.

- It's impossible to understand what I need to do without using the Wiki site. I've had used the Terraria Wiki through out the entire game and I can honestly say I don't know what I'd do without it. This just kills the experiance because you'll have to look through everything which is pretty much spoilers like the final boss.

- Playing with friends is seriously annoying, if they have 10x better gear than you it totally ruins the experiance. They can even be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and instantly enable hardmode on even if you just started playing the game, you'll not stand any chance and even if you got given very good gear it'll just mess up the difficulty and still ruin the experiance.

- You must build a stairway up to the floating islands to get items inorder to craft wings when the game could've just been able make you craft wings in order to visit the floating islands in the first place. Who would have guessed that?

- Mechanical bosses are tough as nails to defeat even if you have decent weapons, there are even some items that seem useful to defeat them until you realise you must defeat them anyway inorder to craft them. You could bring friends to defeat them but that's still a problem mentioned above.

Ever since I've lost my best weapon (God knows how) and I look back at all these issues I've encountered, I'm starting to really give up on this game. This game is just too demanding, unforgiving and the difficulty is just all over the place. Am I the only one having these listed problems?

If anyone is willing to give me any advice on these problems it will highly be appreiciated.

1: Yes items are hard to get sometimes
2: Break more altars
3: Ask the guide about itemss, Also he sometimes gives you hints on what to do
4: Don't play with anyone
5: Use gravitation potions
6: Yes they are tough so try to build an arena with campfire, honey, heart lantern/statue, ect.
Hope this helped :)

Obtaining items is actually quite easy compared to RPG games I play (Diablo 1 and 2.)

Hardmode ores are easy to get if you know how (fish for crates in pre-hardmode and once you beat the WoF open them and you'll get hardmode ores.)

Yes, the Wiki's useful, but you can play without it. Ask the guide for tips and crafting recipes.

Blame your friends, not the game.

What's the problem with building upwards?

Mechanical bosses are MEANT to be hard. It's HARDMODE.

I think the flaw is that this "sandbox" game leans a little too much on progression, so some people get the idea that the only thing they can or should be doing is progressing through the bosses and gear.

As for wings and sky islands, it's really easy to find them with minecart tracks, or the bee mount from Queen Bee. And you can buy a pair of wings as soon as you get into hard mode for 1p from the Witch Doctor, just make a little jungle room for him.

Still...

Thanks for this tip.

The Wiki is more useful but you have a point.

Agreed.

Well the main reason why I would want wings is to visit the floating islands, considering I must do it the hard way to craft the wings anyway is pretty dissapointing.

You're correct but they are a bit unexpectingly difficult compare to pre-hardmode bosses.

The second to last one I meant that I find no issue to build upwards, especially with ropes.

You need Souls of Flight to create any wings and they can only be obtained when in floating island hight so you still need to visit the floating islands in order to create the wings.

Nope. Check the wiki. Leaf Wings are super easy to get, no sky islands needed.

Oh, well I had no trouble of doing so but I found it dissapointing that I had to do it in order to craft wings

Early hardmode wings can't even reach floating islands anyway so...

Oh really? I never noticed that, thanks for pointing that out.

Also on small worlds you can just take a gun and shoot up while running left and right to find sky islands, just listen for the impacts. Only works sometimes on medium worlds, and pretty much never on large worlds though.

Use meteorite bullets so it bounces back AND you get two sounds (one on impact with island and one on impact with surface.)

out of those issues items that are hard to get aand the boss difficulties seem more important. however the development team has done tons to help. for wings and ores I reccomend use the angler. it can take quite a while but you can get fin wings from the angle. also any crate potions and crates can give you hardmode ores in hardmode. for multiplayer I reccomend either avoid it entirely or play with people you really trust.

I use Gravity Potions and that umbrella so I don't die on impact. You can search a lot of the map and find a few islands within the 5 minutes you have; this methods means you can find islands by the time you find your first golden chest.

You can alt-click an item to favorite it, meaning you can't drop it, trash it, or sell it.
