What the use for Adamantite/Titanium/Hallowed/Chlorophyte Armors ?
This question applies to Melee/Ranger characters only, not for Mages

I ask this because here is my progression in Hardmode during my Expert playthrough:

Started Hardmode with Molten armor. Upgraded to Cobalt, then Orichalcum. Then instead of doing Adamantite armor, I did the Frost Armor. With this I defeated the 3 Mechanical Bosses, then Plantera. After Plantera I upgraded to Shroomite armor.

And, I mean.... What's the point of doing Adamantite/Titanium armor if you are ranger/Melee , Frost armor gives you a nice effect (frostburn inflicted on ennemies, only the destroyer is immune to this effect plus a few other ennemies and bosses, but Plantera, Twins and Prime are NOT immune), you can play both melee and ranger with it, you have nice bonuses, it is cheaper than Adamantite/Titanium armors in bars.... (though it requires Frost Core, finding Ice Golems is not hard during a night with blizzard but killing them, especially in Expert, is really difficult). Then once you have defeated a mechanical Boss (might have to kill him more than once though), you can have Hallowed Armor. But then again, though it's easy to craft, you lack the possibility to play two classes, you don't have frostburn effect and don't have much defense (frost has better defense for ranger, hallowed has better defense for melee but not so much, only 7 more). So sticking with Frost Armor the others two mechanical bosses are largely doable even on expert, the order doesn't really matter. Now you can have Chlorophyte armor, but.... Chlorophyte is limited, you can find a lot of chloro in the underground jungle, but a bar requires 6 ore which means that you need huge amounts of ore to craft an armor... So if you play melee turtle armor is better, especially since you'll need it to craft beetle armor anyway... And ranger can defeat Plantera with Frost Armor (which still has more defense than ranger cholo armor), saving the chlorophyte for the better shroomite armor...

So I can understand that Adamantite/Titanium/Hallowed/Chlorophyte armors are useful for mages since Frost armor is useless to them, however these armors have ranger and melee versions and, while they have nice bonuses, Frost armor is enough to take down the 3 mechanical bosses and Plantera even on Expert, and maybe Chlorophyte armor is better for Plantera but it's more expensive and you'll need chlorophyte later (melee user even already have a better version), so I don't really see the point in making them....

Your toughts ?

What's the point of Obsidian armor?

Better yet, what's the point of Pearlwood armor? Who really is going to use it when it becomes available?

It's just there for variety and inclusiveness. The game in general is poorly balanced, with many items being just plain useless.

I never use Adamantite/Titanium armor either.

youre saying terraria is unbalanced. ok, do you have a brain? its perfectly fine. its just doing it to be there, because i use glowing mushroom dye with pearlwood armor for parties. it looks fine.
Frost armor better than chlorophyte armor(ranger)? Because i'm gonna fight plantera soon with megashark

Chlorophyte is arguably a tiny bit stronger... personally I never bothered with it since you need the Chlorophyte for so many other things (Turtle Armor, Spectre Armor, Shroomite, Hoverboard, DCU).

yeah as the comment above me said, chlorophyte armor might be a bit stronger for ranger (haven't tested it for myself) but you need chlorophyte for shroomite armor which is the end game armor for ranger (before the vortex armor). so, as plantera can be defeated with frost armor which is quite good, better save the chlorophyte for shroomite armor which is stronger and that you'll need anyway.
Unless you have a chlorophyte farm of course (or a lot of chlorophyte), in which case you can probably afford both chlorophyte and shroomite armors (but as a ranger you'll need chlorophyte for bullets, too.)

Adamantite and Titanium (and possibly Hallowed) can be a nice alternative for those who don't feel confident enough to fight the Frost Golems, or haven't gotten a rain event to hunt for them.
Also, prior to 1.3, Frost Armor needed Hallowed bars to craft, so you had to use Adamantite/Titanium.
For rangers, Frost Armor also doesn't have the chance not to consume ammo that Adamantite and Hallowed have which, even if it's not that important, can be pretty useful once you start using stuff like Chlorophyte Bullets, which can be tricky to get unless you make a farm for it.

As for Chlorophyte, the set bonus can be good for attacking enemies while you're focusing on something else (although I do agree that Frost Armor is probably better when facing bosses), and it also provides a better damage bonus compared to the more defensively-oriented Turtle Armor, not to mention that it can take some time to drop the 3 Turtle Shells needed to craft it.

i still havent found a use for cobalt/palladium and orichalcum/mithril. fishing crates let you jump straight to adamantite/titanium.

Fishing is pretty new.

Still... used to be you could get Frost Armor directly from the Ice Golem; he just dropped the armor pieces when you killed him. So there wasn't much use for other basic ore armor sets back then either!

the frost armor also doesnt apply the frost burn debuff to each boss

There's no rule anywhere that says you must progress through each tier. They're there to give that tier system that allows players to progress however they are able. The adamantite/titainium was more useful pre-1.3 due the fact that frost armor required hallowed bars to be made. The way I udnerstand it, the hallowed armor was the really old endgame set in 1.2's early days (correct me if I'm wrong, I started back when the golem and hardmdoe dungeon were endgame). The chlorophyte set's also just another progression set that you easily skip depending on where you're going.

Personally, though, I find the set bonus on titanium to be very worthwhile. Shadow dodge is good if you're good at dodging. It's usually enough to completely negate the ocasional hit I take from time to time. Only reason I replace it is in favor of turtle (and eventually beetle, yes)/shroomite/spectre armors.

Titanium and adamantite mask and helmet respectively provide more defense stats compaired to frost armor.
