I FRIKKEN WAS SWITCHING MY ITEMS FROM ONE ACCOUNT TO ANOTHER THEN I FRIKKEN CRASHED AND IT SAID I WAS LOW ON FRIKKEN MEMORY AND WHEN REALLY I STILL HAD FRIKKEN 12 GB I LOST MY RAPID SHARK MY CURSED BULLETS AND MY MOLTEN PICK AND MY ARMOUR FRIKKEN FIX THIS GODAMN BUG IT SUCKS I TRIED DELETING THINGS BUT IT WONT FRIKKEN WORK!!!

yeah it happened to me also, game crashed while I was in inventory, and when I restarted the game my warding lightning boots were nowhere to be seen. I hacked them back in the game, you should do the same - it's not cheating since it's a crash that destroyed them, it's normal that you put them back

Is your Steam Cloud for the game turned on? Try completely disabling it via the games Properties by right clicking Terraria in the game library.

Was there some other bunches of programs secretly taking up all the system memory? Instances where this can happen are the computer applying OS updates, anti-virus programs running scheduled updates/scanning, other programs that are on had memory leaks/hanging, viruses/malicious software eating it up.

The "low memory" might be a false diagnosis from the game too. The game think it's that while it may actually be something else. For example, "Unsuitable graphics card" error can occur if you lock your user account (Windows Key+L) while the game is on, even if you're running a GTX 980 or a Titan.
