Iron / Lead is only for crafting purposes, and silver+ is usually for new tools and possibly armor.
Cactus is just as good (maybe better) and much, much easier to make.
Neither can mine, right now. Might be bugged or undergoing maintenance.

The wiki says no such thing, friend. It's really a shame that they don't teach reading comprehension in primary school anymore.
As the above people have said copper plating can be useful for builders due to its looks. No other blocks have the same look as plating.
Ebonwood by the way is on par or better than copper gear. so yes it is worhtless for armour and weapons.
