I have 1 chests for all ores and gems that can be dug up.
1 for bars of all kind for crafting. Also glas and chains.
1 For items dropped from monsters used in gear crafting and boss summons
1 For items used in alchemy
1 for items used to craft wings and other materials merely used for like 1-2 items (broken sword)
1 for mining gear and bone wand, hive wand, etc.
1 for vanity items
1 for statues
1 for paintings
5 for banners
Yeah you get the point. I find the most useful thing to do is to sort crafting items from aesthetic items.
And as the poster above, you really should name chests. I also like to use different models or paint them.
Metal
Ore
Plants

Potions
This is the right track, I even break it down more and have 3 chests for potions, 3 for plants ingredients, 3 for animal based ingredients, 1 for ore, 1 for bars, 2 for statues, 3 for banners ect.. It sounds like a pain but you'll need multiple chests for certain things because there's just so much of it. All in all I probably have roughly 30 to 35 chets on the go.
Now with the auto stack I can just stand by 12 chests and click the icon and it'll all stack nice and neat. I'm a bit of a hoarder but at least I'm a neat and organized one.
