One of the rewards from Fishing lets you know what your Fishing Power is, I believe it displays penalties from fishing in pools that are too small. But it's not necessary to have it.
Sonar Potions can help you save bait. As long as you don't try to fish out anything, bait is not consumed, so with this Potion you can simply wait until something that you want is biting and try to fish that one only.
"Quests" aren't really quests at all, the Angler just has a "fish of the day" that is the only quest fish available for catching from 4:30 to 4:30 (24 in-game hours, 24 real life minutes). If a quest is too much of a hassle, you can just see him again the next day for a new one. And of course, once it's past 4:30 AM, the previous day's fish can't be caught anymore so don't lose your time.
The wiki should have all the info you need, really.
Thanks for the information.
Another one of the fishing rewards is an infinite water bucket. You can just dig up a big hole in almost any biome and fill it with water to create an adequate fishing pool. Before you get that, you have to do with whatever water is already on the map (or tons of regular buckets).
There aren't that many quest fish on sky islands. Harpyfish, Fallen Starfish and Wyvernfish, if I remember correctly. Usually you'll be sent to reasonable locations.
I'm guessing it would still work as Corruption is a biome modifier and not a standalone biome, but it's really just a guess. You could try just to know how it works in the future, or not risk it and find another body of water in a pure biome.
