Rod of Discord Farming [Closed]
So, I'm sure almost everyone has run into this problem at some point or another, but I am looking for some advice about farming for the Rod of Discord. I have been farming in my Underground Hallow biome for 3 IRL days now, and have yet to have gotten a Rod of Discord. I have also noticed that the Chaos Elementals that drop them are far less common the I had thought. In the 3 days that i have been farming them, I've only killed about 680 of them according to my PDA. I am not trying to get a Rod from another player, and do not wish to trade for one, I am simply looking for advice on how to farm one for myself.

Make a pit with a thin lava layer so the loot doesn't burn underground. Also if your thinking of going afk then get some minion armor and get your best pet out to make sure you don't die.

If you come back and your dead get 3 automatic heart statues to heal you when your low.

Dig an area atleast 168x94 like so

cover the bottom with lava. Use 80 lihzahrd bricks in the middle to create a jungle biome for higher spawnrate. the mobs will spawn approximately where the white blocks are in the picture (if you stand in the middle) so make sure those blocks are hallowed blocks. Also make sure you build it at cavern layer obviously. You can then add traps etc to kill mobs.

I'd say, farm them the same way you'd farm any other non-flying ennemy. Clear out an"upside-down T" space in underground hallow (Make the vertical shaft two blocks wide and more than a screen high. Dimensions of the horizontal part aren't really relevant), then make yourself a platform at the top, so that you can't see the ground from it. On the ground, directly underneath the platform, make a 1 block high, 4/5 blocks wide band of dirt or whatever. Put some lava to the sides of it, enough for it to burn monsters, but not enough to destroy the loot (you can check both things easily).

In order not to slow down your farm, you should make sure there are no caves nearby, and if there are, you should fill them (sandgun works wonders for that, but it can still be a painful task, as filling takes longer than digging. Sand helps a lot, even without the gun).

Now, just go to your platform. Since ennemies can't spawn on lava, they'll all spawn on the small band of dirt, meaning you can powerfarm them with a nimbus or a ranged weapon (though nimbus is the best option). Bats can spawn anywhere, but to reach you, they'll have to go under you, which will kill them extremely fast. Add a water candle and a battle potion, and you'll be swimming in rods and souls of light.

That's the fastest and most efficient farm I can imagine right now, since anything else would require either traps (which are tedious to place) or creating a whole arena.

Lava only destories items that are of white rarity. Any thing above can be plucked out of lava intact. The Rod of Discord is lime rarity, so you don't need a shallow pool to prevent it from being destoried. In fact a deeper pool will destory less useful items (mostly coins and vanity items) and make it harder for items to despawn.

I didn't know that but, it would still be good to keep it a low so you can collect the coins and other stuff.

I made something similar to this, but the skeleton merchant keeps messing up the spawns. Any advice on how to keep him out of the way?

Lava and spiked ball traps?
Nelyeth Jul 20, 2015 @ 10:26am
Damn, I forgot about the skeleton merchant. If/when he spawns, the lava should be able to kill him (just destroy the dirt part, he should burn to death fast enough). If not, you'll have to use traps. Lava should definitely do the trick though.

I set up my trap with lava, spiky balls etc and I've killed over 600 of these buggers, no rod of discord. Any other advice?
