Black Screen (Found Possible fix)
Havn't played in a while, but when I go to open up the game, I get a black screen and complete computer freeze, I have to manually restart the computer. My files are validated, and definently have been able to run this game in the past. Has anyone gotten this as well?

Update: Everytime I go to validate the game, it always says 1 file failed...will reaquire. Without fail, everytime I validate files. Installed three times now. Not sure what else to do.

No. But if that happens you might need to try a reinstallation. (Remember to back up your save files!) I've gotten that problem on a different game before (an MMORPG) and it required an emergency maintenance by the dev team to fix it. If the black screen and complete computer freeze up still occurs, there might be something wrong with your computer but I highly doubt this.

I've reinstalled it and validated already, twice. I almost never get any problems with any of my other games, with exception to my EA games, for obvious reasons, im really not sure where this error is comming from as it gives no message, just a black screen on start-up.

Does this occur when you load the game or a map?

Before the game even starts, I double-click the icon or go into steam and play from there, wait a moment, then black screen and I have to restart. I have waited to see if maybe it just takes a while to load but it shouldn't take ten mins and not let me do anything.

Just reinstalled Terraria today, exact same problem! I can hear sounds once the game finally starts up but it's just a black screen...

Having the same problem here. The game worked yesterday and today I'm geting this black screen at startup. I can hear the music and the sound of mousing over the menu. I already reinstalled and all. Nothing works.

This is getting ridiculous. I searched everywhere and looks like there are multiple people having this problem but no one has an solution. The worst part is that the game was working and now it is not.

Try to disable steam cloud for this game may be this will help :/
Btw,This game not work for mac

I may have found a way to fix this. I ran in compatanility mode, settings applied:
Windows compatability mode - Windows vista service pack 2
Display settings - disable display themes
Run as administrator
Try that, it worked for me and I dont have a problem now.
