What is the benefit of the specific herb planters, if any?
As the title says, im wondering how, for example, using a blinkroot planter is better than wild or clay pot grown.

Planter is platform+pot in one.

You can grow any plant in any planter, the differences are purely cosmetic and for people with OCD like myself. The major difference is that clay pots are an object that is placed ontop of a surface, like a platform. The planters are platforms. So when building the planters are one block less tall and look nicer. Wild grown plants aren't recommended as any weapon swing will remove all of the plants in the area and not just the ones that are "ready".

There much better for compact herb farms honestly, the planters take up one tile and act as platforms with built in clay pots.

In comparison, a platform with a claypot on it is two tiles high, which demands for a much larger farm area than the planters do.

i dunno. a platform with a clay pot on it growing plants 2 tiles high, is no different from an actual block that grows the plants.
because the pot and the plant growing out of it are in the background, not obstructing you in any way.

you still need 3 tiles of space to walk on the planter blocks either way.

so it sounds more like a personal preference of aesthetics.
if all the planters look different, then it might make it easier to organize. if you want a section for every kind.

the only kind i actually farm regularly are moonglow for spelunker potions, the rest, i find plenty in the wild.

The main difference is that you can place more planters vertically than you can platforms + pots. In a room with 6 tiles high space you can place 3 rows of planters or 2 rows of platforms + pots.

Pretty much, I probably worded it badly, but the planter is pretty much a dirt block/sand/corruption block that can grow plants without accidentally harvesting them when it's not bloomed, which means the difference aside form cosmetics are in fact being much more compact. While again doubling as a platform. And is the planter itself and the plant... two tiles high technically.

A platform, planter and it's plant are 3 tiles highs.

Yea I really like the planeters, they look better and are easier to manage and no need to look for clay.

Only thing is how do you get a Fireblossom one ? I see option for planters of all the other seed I have so far on normal, except for this one.

The dryad sells it also after some event flag I believe, mine sells it one world, but another does not in a more fresh world.

Must be after Wall of Flesh then, that is the only thing I haven't done so far. Still just setting up base/arenas and collecting some items still needed as well some fishing.

They're more compact and comfortable to replant. AFAIK, you have to click on every clay pot to plant the seeds, while with planter you can just hold down mouse button.

i know it's moot, and probably off topic, but whenever I have started over, i always made my first hellbridge out of the ash blocks already down there. and by the time i'm done..i have one heck of a fireblossom farm

I should do that but I usually make it out of mud/dirt since I been exploring the jungle a lot before then, which makes a crazy blinkroot farm. Next time I will have try and do both ash and mud/dirt.
