There's no practical use for sonar potions, is there?
Seems like it's just faster in general to catch whatever is on the hook and cast it again. Maybe to conserve bait? But I'd still rather reel everything in and either sell it or make food out of it.

Also, calming potions are awful. Might as well just cast a summon and let it kill things to make piles of money and items everywhere for after you're done fishing.

I think you just answered your own question, at least that's the only conceivable reason I can find to use them. I suppose when you just start fishing, you may not have a lot of bait available?

It does let you avoid the trash while fishing and not waste any bait on them..

Well, yeah. But fishing in an appropriately sized pond is 100% chance to avoid trash already.

Still, if it's a matter of fishing faster or conserving bait I'm always going to lean towards fishing faster.

You'll still get a ton of Bass, Princess Fish, Bomb Fish, Stink Fish, Specular Fish and other such nuisances if the pond is large enough. Also, remember that throwing out the line and reeling it in does take a bit of time (less if you can land it near/at your feet of course).

yeah he didn't mean literal trash. Bomb fish at least can be sold for a fair amount.
