Using swords are kinda weird now...
Before the newest content update (about 3-4 months ago) when I played Terraria, clicking when you had a sword equipped would make you slash in the direction of the cursor, rather than the direction of the player. (If you click when the cursor is on the left "half" of the screen, you'd attack to the left, regardless of the direction the player is facing, and vice-versa) But after starting the game again after the new big content update, the player swings according to the direction he/she is facing, regardless of the position of the cursor, making it quite difficult to attack enemies while running away. Is there an option to change this? Or is this just a new, annoying feature that was added in the past updates?

This feature has existed for a LONG time, long before even Hardmode was a thing. You are sorely mistaken on how Swords have worked.

this has been in the game even in 1.1, there are some swords that are no gonna swing in the direction the cursor is, not all but some of the sword and this has been the same before 1.2

Posting again since I remembered something: A few relatively new swords fire a ranged bolt(still does Melee damage) in the direction of your Mouse cursor, and your character will turn to face that direction if needed.

All other swords that I know of, especially ones from old patches, have relatively always swung in the direction your character is facing. Spears, however, have basically always fired in the direction of your mouse. Perhaps you were thinking of that TC?

Shinku, I may actually have been confused and I just remembered wrong. Its been awhile since I last played, and... frankly, things like this just get jumbled around in my brain so MAYBE it was always like this and I just wished it wasn't. But whatever it is, it looks like I'll just have to get used to it (or just stop using melee altogether). But thanks for the feedback! (Not just Shinku, but to everyone else too)

I too remember all swords following the cursor, back then it was possible to use a non autoswing sword to kill the wall of flesh.
