Corruption Pre-Hardmode
I've got a bit of a problem. There's a Corruption biome that's actually pretty close to my spawn. I replaced some grass blocks with stone. I'm not sure it'll stop it. Anything I can do?

clay is also a good stopper of the curroption but be care. it travels underground and this is where most of the infection occurs. if you make a hellavator style gap straight down i think 4 or 5 blocks wide (unsure of this) the curroption shouldn't be able to spread across the gap to your base part of the world.
i'm assuming you are just starting off and don't have acess to such things as the clemenator so you are really not far enough to directly stop it.
i would say lave it at the moment and worry about it when you are a bit furthur on and capable of stopping it fully

The problem is, it's already spreading, and I am very early in the game. I'm wondering whether I should just make a new world that doesn't spawn a biome so close to me like an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Actually, Bolt, I'm sorry to say this, but the corruption or the crimson doesn't spread until hardmode, unless you are in hardmode, I guess:)

also, you can use purification powder. It sucks, but it's the only way to erase the corruption in pre hardmode. Also, it's only 75 copper. or was it 50?
Anyway, you'll not have a problem with the corruption until hardmode, and that's when you'll start savin' up money for the clementinator

Thanks for your feedback, guys. It was spreading, though, so I said "To hell with it" and started a new world.
What is this thread even. Corruption/crimson spreads very slow pre-hardmode, but it still spreads. To stop this you must put a sunflower at the edge, and it will prevent corruption/crimson from spreading past the point where you put the sunflower.

Exactly what I said lol.
Then why did you say that corruption not spreading at all pre-hardmode is true?

I have seen corruption and crimson spread pre hardmode. They move slowly, but they do spread. Clay stops the spread, as does wood or any "made" brick. Stone does not, as it can be corrupted into crimstone. It can spread through background walls, so it's best to remove those to stop spread. The wiki says you need three blocks to stop the spread, but I don't trust that. I think five is better, to be safe.

Haven't tested yet whether wallpaper stops the spread through backgrounds, but that makes sense, don't you think? Probably not worth it, though. Better just to remove backgrounds.
if you have heard of Tedit you can use that to build a wall to stop the corruption but you need to mak sure that it is made up of the right materials or it will pass right through another thing you can do with Tedit is change the biome completley into something you want like the hallow or regular stuff but beware that it can crash and break your world so it is advised to use a copy of that world instead of the reall thing first

Stone seems to work for me. It's really my only option since sunflowers can't stop Crimson spreading at all.

Something to note, though: when using stone or any other Crimson- or Corruption-resistent material, you need to dig several blocks down. Corruption and Crimson is spread primarily through the grass, so putting up a barrier to stop the grass will prevent any conversion from taking place.

Another thing to remember: Curruption and Crimson can theoretically spread through rock if normal rock is connected to Ebonstone(?) or Crimstone, but not if it has to pass through grass first. So ideally you'll want a block of Corruption/Crimson grass in front of the Ebonstone or Crimstone, THEN you can put up your stone wall.

And finally, a tip: Save your purification powder for trees and stone. All you need to do to get rid of Corruption grass and Crimson grass is use your pick on the dirt block once to remove the grass.

Natural stone is only a deterrant pre-hardmode. In pre-hardmode, only few things spread corruption; most notably, corrupt/crimson grass will spread to other dirt blocks, whether they have grass or not. Crimstone and Ebonstone are inert, as are the different colored ices and sands.

Once you enter Hardmode, this all changes. Sand, stone, and ice will also spread corruption/crimson, and the spread can jump up to 3 tiles in any direction. While grasses are still only generally spread over the surface of dirt, stone, sand, and ice can spread in any direction.

Infections of biomes aren't just surface. It calculates depth, too. So don't be surprised if Corrupt/Crimson mobs are spawning all over your nice, clean green grass. It IS possible to completely purify a world, but very difficult and requires more work than someone is usually willing to put into the game. The Clentaminator speeds this up quite a bit, but is in no way foolproof.

It should also be noted that, post-hardmode, breaking a Demon Alter to spawn Hardmode ores can also result in a random stone block being turned into Crimson/Corruption or Hallow, to seed a new biome.

And this discussion has largely become moot, anyway, since the original poster has already said they've changed out for a different world with corruption farther from spawn.

Depending on how far you are in the game you can buy the clemintinator and clear the surface that way, You could spread hollow around your base because hallow is easier to manage and corruption cannot spread into hollow. The best way (although tedious) is to mine holes on either side of your base that are three blocks across and go all the way to the underworld.

Are we talking about pre-hardmode or post-hardmode here? For clarification, what I was referring to in my previous post was pre-hardmode because that was what the thread seemed to be about. The circumstances do change after hardmode but you don't need to worry about that when you're just starting out.

Ideally, you want to completely purge your world of Corruption or Crimson before you enter hardmode so that you only need to worry about the Hallow afterward.

Complete busywork. Defeating the Wall of Flesh will spawn a line of Corruption/Crimson, as well as a line of Hallow. It also triggers the more voracious spread that comes with Hardmode. Also, smashing demon alters (which you'll need to do to spawn Hardmode ores) have a chance of converting 1 block of stone into Either Crimstone/Ebonstone or Pearlstone, seeding an underground biome unless you find and purify/destroy it in time.

All in all, it's largely preference.

If you can get a Dryad to move into your house yo ucan buy powder that gets rid of a little bit of corruption. Just get some of that and replace the new grassy blocks with clay and sunflowers.
