i did try going back to turtle after this though and found myself losing much more health so i'm now sticking with my Beetle gear which i personally prefer.
i find that protecting ones self while still dishing out heaps of damage is better that having enemies kill themselves on your body. hope this helps and your english is quite good.
Personally I like the Turtle armor more because it can recoil half the damage, beetle armor only really helps when you have the beetles up (: 45% less damage with tank set and 30%(?) extra damage and melee speed with dps set) which take time to set-up and recover..
But overall Beetle is better.
Yes, it only affects mobs that make direct contact with you.
Edit: also what I mean by good is that it makes sense for thorns to only affect melee. If it does affect ranged attacks, I cannot forget it and it irritates me.
get scale mail for big damages
get shell if you want to be really tanky
