My player character name turned red

my character name turned red i went on single player and i saw my name red and i didnt put a underscore in my name and it was there i also had no armour and i couldnt click it please help

Sorry your character seems to have been infected with the Redivus. There is nothing we can do for it now.

Your character file has been corrupted. Go to My Games -> Terraria -> Players. Find the copy of your character file that has the ".plr.bak" file extension and take out the ".bak" part to restore the file.

In the future, always create backups of your Terraria folder by copying it to a different location on and off of your PC.

if your charecter turned red and has no armor or vanity or acessories on and not a hardcore charecter its a BAD file .bad

there is a way to fix it easily for windows

Go to my documents-> My Games -> Terraria-> Worlds, then go to your world and right click on it. the last option on the list should say properties, click on it. A new window will pop-up and there will be 5-or so tabs, go to previous version. You will be able to restore it back to a previous version and it will become playable again.

Aren't we talking about restoring a character instead of a world? He didn't say anything about the world being damaged. Just the character.

This isn't the solution to everything. Sometimes it only makes the problem worse.

What? Even if it was a Hardcore character, the name would be purple and if he died then it would just be gone.

Do you still have a problem with it? If you don't, how did you fix it? I just got the same problem when my computer restarted itself with a message from "American Megatrends" on the screen. Then I could not open my world singleplayer, not on a server and my character was red and had the first standard picture. Please Help! I had so much stuff and it was super fun to play!

Deleted the worldfile .bak but it still won't work. The player is still corrupted and i don't know what to do! Please Respond with help if you know any!
