Also if you want more damage then craft the Specter Mask as it does just that.
BTW if you want an idea of pre-nerf Specter Armor then think this. You could literally stand inside Plantera and pretty much every boss in the Pumpkin Moon and not drop even slightly below 90% of your health.
It's there as a result of a lot of nerfs to heal on hit items. Specter Armor could literally keep you and your friends from dieing to any boss in the game if you have the right damage increasing buffs.
What am I kidding? I more than cleared the Pumpkin Moon despite all those nerfs.
Meanwhile the Vampire Knives are pretty much useless. Well... actually... that is a bit extreme as it is good healing if you are good at dodging roughly 80% of attacks sent at you.
Heal on hit is still pretty damn good. Meaning... if you have the right damage increasing buffs and a great ablity to dodge. You can kill any boss without much trouble.
By right I mean: Wrath, Well Fed, Magic Power, Endurance, Lifeforce, and Iron Skin Potions.
Combine those potion effects with Manacing on accessories that massively benefit Mage type characters and you have quite a potent combination that will get you past Wave 15 of the Pumpkin and Frost Moons.
Have your magic weapons, (RazorPine, Razorblade Typhoon, :optional: golden shower for armor reduction) You either heal (better in groups) on you do more dmg, less people/solo.
It's better off this way
Its a SUPPORT armour so it makes no sense for it to be a damage boosting healing armour.
Just like the turtle and beetle armour have lots more defence but attract enemies to you but unlike the magic support counterpart they actually boost mellee a bit.
And it makes those items sets perfect to run the paladin sheild since that 25% damage you take per player will be heavily reduced.
Turtle or Beetle set with Paladin Shield, Frozen Turtle Shell, and 3 more accessories all set to Warding turns you into the Tank of the party.
Spectre set with Hood turns you into the Healer of the party, and goes well with the above Tank.
Shroomite set turns you into the Nuker of the party, and you are less likely to be targeted, meaning it is mostly the Turtle/Beetle user who gets hurt(they have Paladin Shield just in case someone else gets hit), allowing the Spectre Hood healing to mostly go to the Turtle/Beetle user, who needs it most.
And hello actually putting effort into killing your bosses and clearing your events. ^_^
This isn't counting the coin gun, that little overpowered thing.
But after doing a pumpkin moon with 2 of my friends, all each class. Mage are THE BEST support class. Grab a paladin shield, let your fighter get beetle armor (to get aggro) and see bosses get destroy. It takes litterally 5 seconds for anything to die if you all focus it. We started the punkin halfway into the night (lazy and lost focus for couple minutes) and still got to last wave pretty easily.
Bare in mind we are decked out, only I am left behind with no money to forge good items. But have all of the good weapons. I only use Flairon & Vamp Knives though
