Why wont my corruption/crimson spread?
Im trying to spread corruption and crimson all over my world (pre-hard mode), so I placed a whole bunch of ebonstone and crimstone all over on the surface. It has now been several in game days and none of them have spread even a single block.

Ebonstone and Crimstone don't spread corruption pre-Hardmode. Try using dirt to build a bridge from your existing Corruption/Crimson grass to other biomes. Some biomes are also naturally resistant. Corruption, Crimson, and (after Hardmode) Hallow don't spread through Snow.

Edit: For those wanting to contain/eradicate Corruption/Crimson/Hallow in their world, it's possible, but difficult if you don't use a Clentaminator. Containment is possible by building walls/tunnels more than 3 tiles wide/high that aren't sand, stone, ice, dirt, or mud. Empty space is a viable option for containment.

Or just use a clementator
The "evil" solutions can be bought from the steampunker in a blood moon or solar eclipse event, depends on the original type of evilness of the world though.

Edit : it's true that those items aren't cheap. too bad there isn't any bloody water like (un)holy water.

You could aways ask someone for seeds, or fight The Eye of Cthulhu for them.

That's Hardmode gear. I'd say buy a carpload of seeds and go batcarp crazy on the dirt.

Corruption and Crimson only spread in hardmode. Its not a bug;thats just the way the game works.

How do I get seeds of it?

Actually, no. Corruption and Crimson definately spread pre-Hardmode. It's just not as rampant as after Hardmode is activated. For instance, Sunflowers can prevent spreading pre-Hardmode, but after Hardmode, the spread will uproot them.

I had actually thought it didn't spread pre-Hardmode, until I flattened some land right next to Corruption and wound up having to build a wall because the Corruption tried taking over my tree farm.

Pre-Hardmode, Corruption and Crimson WILL spread over dirt tiles. Using a Dryad to purchase seeds is definately a possibility, but by no means neccisary, since you'd have to defeat some boss in the world in order to get her to arrive, and she only sells those seeds during a Blood Moon, anyway.
Using Multiplayer to trade items may also be a possibility, though most people are only interested in end-game items.

Removing obstacles from the borders of Corruption/Crimson will allow the corrupt plants to spread, and building a simple dirt bridge is probably the easiest way to do it. It's not the fastest, by any means, but it's possible to watch it take over normal grass. Pre-Hardmode corruption has severe limitations in how it spreads, the main way being by spreading through dirt.
