Lightning Boots vs. Frostspark Boots
Can someone tell me their differences? I'm having a hard time choosing wether I want to combine my Lightning Boots with my Ice Skates. If Frostspark Boots are better on ice, but worse on everything else, then I won't do it. It's hard to tell from their descriptions, which one is fastest.

The Frostspark Boots are exactly the same as Lightning Boots, except with the effects of the Ice Skates added in. It's a straight upgrade.

Yeah, do it.

Frostspark Boots just combine the effect of Ice Skates and Lightning boots...

They are a direct upgrade as they combine the effects of both Lightning Boots and Ice Skates

Great, TY. That makes the most sense and I was hoping for that answer. I just had my doubts when their descriptions are very different from each other. Lightning boots being "incredibly fast" and Frostspark Boots being "super fast" + 7% movement speed.

Yeah, the descriptions aren't always 100% consistent.

But the vast majority of the time, combining two accessories creates a new accessory that has all the abilities of the two used in making it.

The only combination I can think of that will actually weaken the item is Mechanical Glove and Magma Stone; it will make the Mechanical Glove significantly weaker.

Yeah, they go the same speed. The tooltip is actually wrong however as the boost is 8%

Inconsistent and wrong. Thanks game :D Really helps me in making my descions! This sure cleared up a few things for me.
EDIT: Now I just need to figure out whether I want the +4% damage that I got or spend my lifesavings on getting +4 defense lol

Defense is pretty great early in the game, but tends to lose value as you progress. Unless you really, really stack it of course, since it has non-linear benefits.

Typically, all my accessories are always Menacing.

Enchantments should depend on the way you play and the diffculty. For expert or if you're doing hardcore. Warding is what you want. If you're playing normal, do what you want.

what he said
its like the star wrath vs the star fury
its a direct upgrade even though it has the same effect of falling stars

Should someone be foolish enough to play Summoner on Expert, they would have to be pretty ignorant of game mechanics to stack Defense instead of buffing their damage.

Defense does a lot against low-damage attacks and very little against high-damage attacks. If you're playing on Expert, I don't have to tell you what kind of attacks you'll be facing.

Defense's benefits are non-linear, giving the smallest benefit to the lower-Defense classes. Summoner is *the* lowest-Defense class in the game.

Then, percentage-based damage reduction (which you will be using extensively in Expert) being applied after Defense further lessens the effect of Defense; in fact, it *halves* it.

Why reduce damage taken on a hit very slightly when you can make hits stop entirely?

Buff your damage, not your Defense. Damage will do a lot more to ensure your survival than Defense will.

This is even more relevant to Summoners because they will be doing frequent low-damage hits, making any damage buffs significantly more powerful than their on-paper value.

Defense is a larger stat in Expert you big palooka. Both players and enemies take less damage than they would on normal except the enemies dish out more.

Stacking defense is very noticable from my experiences,

I've played with my summoner on expert, and I find the Worm Scarf and the defensive boosts that come with the Celestial Shell/Stone to be enough defense-wise. I haven't done a full summoner playthrough on expert yet, however when playing a summoner it's always helpful to keep in mind that summons retain their stats even when you swap out your accessories and armor, so you can have the best of both worlds by summoning your minions with damage accessories equipped and then swapping those out for defensive ones.
