Anybody know why this isn't valid housing?

I don't understand. I believe I have everything you need? :(

Edit:

I now have the spawn point that I needed,

@Hikumi stated it was too big, and that, I believe, was the problem

is an updated version of the house where I enclosed the bed into a small space and now I can spawn there. Thanks for everyone's input!

Too big. Try closing off the basement with a trapdoor

You probably want to make your houses smaller or split them to look like apartments.

Are the floor and basement walls (not back) player placed? not sure if that is still a requirement.

Remember that platforms do not count as partitions, so sealing off the basement with platforms won't work. With the addition of trapdoors in 1.3 horizontal doors are now possible

but they DO count as seperate rooms for npcs, you don't need to place a door for each npc any more.

I really just want this house as a spawn point for me, so I don't have to travel as far, this is not a house for any NPCs

I could add doors or something to make separate rooms if needed.

That would probably be easist, just make your spawn point valid

They do still count as partitions, you wouldn't be able to have staircases otherwise. But yeah, the basement needs to be partitioned off is the most likely problem. The snow blocks might also be unacceptable as housing material. Replacing them with snow bricks might be necessary.

So it's the snowblocks then? cause when I query for the basement it says I just need a table and chairs, but, of course, I don't want to live in the basement lol.

I have good news: I closed off the part where I have the bed, and put a door. The only problem is now the guide has moved in, since this was the first house I built.

Your spawnpoint doesn't need to be a valid house, just an closed space with a bed. If you don't want NPC to move in, remove the table, chair, or light

@Hikumi

Thanks for the info! I'll keep that in mind. I assume it needs to be small though..I believe that is why it wasn't working: too big
The Jerodian Jul 13, 2015 @ 11:10pm
Also, thanks for anyone else who helped/gave me ideas on how to fix the problem!
Ankheg Jul 14, 2015 @ 5:09am
And snowblock is not a problem. Your house just needs to be enclosed.
Afterthought
