Fast Travel / Teleportation

Hey all.
I've recently gotten the game and have been playing a little with it, and have to say I enjoy it greatly, but now that I delve deeper underground and move further away from my town, I wonder if there are any fast travel tools or items that would allow me to get around faster.

It starts to get rather tedious to have to crawl all the way back down to where last I've been, every time.

there is a teleporter sold by the steampunker, but she is a hardmode npc. Other then that there is no fast travel.

There's the Magic Mirror, found in chests, which will bring you back to your spawnpoint. Recall potions do the same, but are consumed on use.

you could also dig straight down and use ropes to quickly go up and down and/or make a hellevator.

Well, if you need some horisontal-Surface fast travel you could try to build a Maincart path, you can craft it with with Wood and Iron. It will allows you travel faster. If you need a Vertical fast-travelin', you can mine vertical-line tunel to underworld (or just destroy tiles with Bombs/Dinamites).

To add to Gham2001, there is also a Portal Gun, but it's a drop from the final boss of the game. There's the Rod of Discord which allows you to teleport to any place on your screen that you can stand in though it too is a Hardmode drop.

For Pre-Hardmode equipment theres Rocket Boots for vertical mobility, Hermes Boots which give you a run of sorts, and if you have a Slimey Saddle you can use the slime to fall faster than normal, which can be good for desending hellavators.
