So, you do a little less damage, have more health regen, but take more damage, and lose a mobility option. Alongside having to collect buffs constantly to survive. Nice when you are using magic, since its buffed so much, not so much for melee, where all of the armors bonuses, buffs aside, don't matter.
Fun fact the shield factors itself in despite what you get hit with. And the shield is more useful as a dodge than an actual shield, when vs an Expert Moon Lord.
i've rolled up with almost 100 armor and still get hit for 200+ by his lazer. When it comes down to it, as I said, you are going to get hit, and going to die anyway.
The Nebula Health Regeneration buffs will keep your HP up better than potions will anyway. Much better.
That said, it's interesting that the Nebula bonuses (damage and health regen) are usable regardless of your weapon choice. Not sure they'll bother to change it since there is no build that can efficiently exploit it.
So, I'm going to have to say no.. Nebula is not better melee armor lol
Most endgame melee weapons are ranged. Yoyos also have long range (melee speed bonuses increase range) and are available throughout the game.
Defense does get better as you get more of it, but at some point you're crippling your attack power. If you're fighting hardmode mechs using endgame gear, you'd want to maximize your DPS to just kill them in seconds. The sooner you kill something, the less time it has to hurt you. It's best to find the appropriate balance for every encounter and go with that.
But yes... Nebula's bonuses don't bring it in line with Solar, much less Beetle, so it's simply not a very good option if you're going to use a melee weapon.
...but then again, if you're in a group and wearing Nebula, you might want to use a Magic weapon over a melee one anyway, haha.
