Best way to get turtle shells?

I'm trying to get turtle shells so I can make the beetle armor before moving on to the martian madness and lunar events. I have the beetle husk and the chlorophyte but I have 0 shells. According to my REK 3000, I've killed a total of almost 150 giant toroises, but I never get the shells. I was wondering if there is a good way to farm the turtles without mining out a giant hole in the earth, because right now I'm just chilling with my deadly sphere and death sickle farming.

Me and my friend were playing and farming these things for me, that was one of the most annoying things Ive ever done in Terraria, I killed about 200 and he killed about 150 before we got 3 of these damn things.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem. Killed 150 or so turtles and only one shell (and I got it when I first entered the underground jungle). Maybe the last patch broke the drop rate or something.

Ive gotten 3 slime staffs so far but I can't manage to get turtle shells :/

ok its a 1 and 400 drop chance i belive and just make a farm to spawn them in then kill them also just fly around in the jungle for a while and even set your spawn at the jungle.this will pay off it just takes time to get shells

I actually just farmed a second set of shells a few hours ago, they are obtainable still but are pretty rare. With 3 pets going and jungle spores, it took about 45 minutes to get 3 of them. I placed a small platform in the sky above the jungle flat ground and let the pets kill turtles as they spawned just off screen.

Strange. I got 14 of the damn things in a rather short period of time.

Random is random, I suppose. Keep at it, you'll get them.

i got them without even trying, just killing mobs in my way... lol
it was like 5 days ago tho, probably a small patch glitched it?

increase your spawn rates using a battle potion and that blue candle, that helped me

I've killed probably over 100 of those things and I have 3 turtle shells. I probably won't even use them as I have already have vortex armour.

lol i get so lucky i killed like 250 ahnd got like 10 turtle shellls or more

Well, Beetle is still the best Warrior armor in the game, so you'll want one if you ever want to try an endgame melee build.

I finally got the shells I needed lol. They spawn a lot above ground at night. Its strange how much trouble I had getting shells, meanwhile I've gotten 3 slime staffs so far.

Well, Beetle is still the best Warrior armor in the game, so you'll want one if you ever want to try an endgame melee build.
