Can you transfer worlds to friends?
So I just started playing terraria on 1.3. We started a world with the new steam integration. So how do we give the files to someone else so they can host the games?

Yes.

Go to your Terraria worlds folder (should be documents/my games/terraria/worlds) and find the world you want to give them.

Upload it to somewhere like Mediafire (or since worlds aren't super big you can probably send it through skype or something if you use that) and give them the link to download it.

Then have them put the world in the same place you got it from.

Just find the world in My Games/Terraria and send'em the file. Might have to send the backup file for the world as well, sometimes the game throws a fit if you don't have it.

Ok thanks I'll try that.

If you're using Windows 8, navigate to Documents > My Games > Terraria > Worlds. There are two files you need to give to your friend that wants the world. Choose the files that reflect the name of the world you want to transfer. These with end in .wld and .wld.bak.

As for actually sending them, you could put them in a .zip folder and upload them to a file-sharing site like Mediafire or drop them into a Skype chat which should allow you to send those files directly, though depending on the size it might be pretty slow.

This would work of course, but would it overwrite the file on there side and not on yours making your copy outdated? I could be wrong because all the friend would be doing is hosting off the copy given from you.

Just transfer a copy of your world in a flashdrive. Easiest way, unless you can't actually visit your friend in-person.

You shouldn't necro-bump threads.

Are you sure you put it in the right folder?
