Platinum armor or pickaxe

Alright so I'm new to Terraria (just got the game a few days ago) so I'm not really sure sometimes on what I should be doing in terms of saving up materials for later events in the game. I found enough platinum ores to make a platinum pickaxe which I know can mine crimtane for me. I found crimtane ores in parts underground but I also wonder if I should save up the platinum to make armor for later stages where it could definitely help. I'm at the stage in the game where I'm about to fight Eye of Cthulu. I'd like to hear some opinions, thanks!

The armor will last you for most of early hardmode (Til Molten, if melee), whereas the pick would be replaced.

Go for the armor, and craft the pickaxe when you get into the Corruption/Crimson's boss.

I usually just skip all the early tier metals since killing the eye and the eater will deck you out in full demonite, and all you really need to kill the eater is decent health and a ton of molotovs.

Platinum Armor would do you more good than a pickaxe though.
