Any tips to find a Lost Girl?
I am trying to get the metal detector and I need to find a Lost Girl/Nymph which is one of the rarest if not the rarest enemies in the game. I am right now trying to use a minecart which goes along half crimson underground and half snow underground with water candles strewed about. All I've been finding are Mimics (I am using the thing that tells you if there's a rare creature too).
I did see 1 lost girl like 20 minutes of doing it but she despawned becasue the minecart didn't stop fast enough. Are there any other methods to help or is this my best bet? Btw I am in post plantera hardmode on expert

It's easier to find them in pre-hardmode (all the added spawns lower their overall chance of appearing). A simple way to get some to appear is to clear out a space undergound just a bit bigger then your screens view. Enemies will spawn just off your screen, and thus you will start to have tons of enemies spawn on the floor if you can just barely not see it. Use something like minions, traps, or a thin pool of lava to kill the enemies while they are off screen. It shouldn't take to long to get your metal detector (I found a bunch myself this way).

Just put up some underground farming arena. Flat surface to both side and fill up any other empty space visible on screen with lava or dirt/stone so mobs only coming from two sides.
Then put up water candle and drink battle potion. All you have to do is let your minions deal with incoming mobs (or guns brazing if that is your style). Check both sides every now and then to see loots. I got 2~3 metal detector this way.

I read on the Wiki that they have a higher chance to spawn in hardmode tho

I realize this doesn't help you now, but for future reference you can stop much faster by dismounting from the cart with R, or by hooking the track with E (this one is instant).

At he same time however there are a lot more mobs that are added to the list. However I don't think it really matters as I was able to find them easily enough in both modes (funny story, but I found two of them, one after the other, at the EXACT SAME spot while randomly wandering).

If you try the open space like I said you should find them in short order. As an added side bouns you might find the undead trader guy (annoyingly he stops all spawns until he despawns).

Playing on expert might be more helpful for your farming because it is a 100% drop from her. You can also use the accessory that tells you hostile and rare mobs around you to tell you if a lost girl is nearby. I found her on accident just riding on a set of rails back and forth trying ot get the minecart kill achievement. Since then I have found her 4 more times. I also found found her most times in a granite cave, but I think that might have just been luck.

Well I am clearing out a huge area underground and I've never made a spawn trap for enemies. Could you be really specific on what to build?

You can also get the drop from a corrupted mimic, I know. Those are a little more common. I managed one on an expoert world and was very pelased when it dropped.

Well one option is just to have a bunch of minions. They will attack anything in range on thier own. I used spiders on my last run and they worked out fine (I have a Soul of Light farming area where I keep finding lost girls).

Traps are not really an option until you can get into the temple. If you can, setup spiked ball traps on the floor. If placed with two blocks below them they force the balls to go upwards, thus covering the floor with spiked balls.

One bucket of lava well leave a shallow enough pool of it's spread over something like 8 or 9 blocks. Build a number of trenchs that length along the floor (leave a block between them so enemies will spawn).

Another tip is that spawns are purely based on what you can see. Setting the game to 800x600 will have stuff spawning much nearer to you compared to using a super high res setting. So in other words you don't have to dig as big an area to farm in.

Well I fully cleared a room to where all I see is the background, should I make a walkway of dirt going from one side to the other with lava on it or make a tube and put lava above me on it? I am sorry I am pretty new to this game if I am not understanding correctly
