Crimson Key

I have killed thousends of creatures in the crimson biome on a hard world and haven't got one. I made a little box above the surface and just had spiders do the killing while AFK. Am I doing something wrong? Do I just need to AFK for like 10 more hours?

ya, I realized my math was wrong. But I think the problem is what mathwiz pointed out. There are too many items on the ground and it is despawning. I think I am going to use meteor heads because they dont drop items

Meteor heads drop meteor head banners occasionally, as well as meteor ore sometimes. XD Unless they changed that as of 1.3, that is.
You might be able to use an artificial mimic spawner to do it though, they only drop banners if you spawn them from the chest statue.

well, figured out after about three hours that meteor heads dont drop anything at all when in hardmode. so that was wasted effort. I am now just sitting under a small pool of lava.

I was playing with a friend, and within the first 10 minutes I got a Hallow Key on accident.
Too lucky.

Small pool? I hope it's one bucket spread over 12 blocks, anything deeper than that may end up destroying items.

its not, I checked by throwing some in. its about 6 or 7 blocks. anyway, I am right beneath it so any items that are dropped I pick up instantly.
