Are smooth granite blocks valid housing?

I only ask because I started building a granite mansion with smooth granite. What I noticed is that I can't seem to get my NPC's to move into any of the rooms though. It just says invalid housing.

I am doing the same, Only the issue i have been having is that is is saying the furnate does not exist in the room

Granite blocks / walls work fine. Although I didn't use granite furniture, I can't see how that would make a difference. Something else was probably forgotten.

Well, I solved my own issue ages ago actually. It was the fact that smooth granite walls are so dark I couldn't see a hole I left in my wall. Granite wasn't the issue, and I was able to build suitable NPC housing out of it once I figured out what the problem was.

Edit: Platforms can get in the way of tables, chairs and light sources though. So if it isn't accknowledging your furniture, make sure the room isn't complex in it's design first before testing it out.
